Yes. We know you’ve heard about this over and over again but here’s the thing, how much are you actually doing to prevent these illnesses? Well, today we’re here to emphasize on the dangers of said illnesses!
First off, what is Metabolic Syndrome? Metabolic Syndrome is a medical term to describe a combination of Lifestyle Related Illnesses (LRI) such as Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and Dyslipidemia.
Now let’s get down to the root cause of this Metabolic Syndrome. In order to do that, we must first look into the causes of Lifestyle Related Illnesses. We at Fitnacle have compiled a list of important factors that would cause Lifestyle Related Illnesses.

Factors :
- Sedentary Lifestyle
- Unhealthy Diet
- Excessive Alcohol Intake
- Smoking
- Obesity
These are just the few common main factors that cause Lifestyle Related Illnesses (LRI). The fact is, everyone knows this and yet the current population in the world, let alone Malaysia doesn’t seem to actually care about this. 60.7% Malaysians are living with non-communicable disease. 7 out of 10 Malaysian adults suffer from chronic diseases. 45% adults live an unhealthy lifestyle due to sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating. This is a very saddening fact and if we were to be honest, downright scary as most LRIs are non-reversible and is lifelong.

Here are some complications when someone has just one of these Lifestyle Related Illnesses when left unchecked.
- Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)
- Stroke
- Chronic Renal Failure (Nephropathy)
- Optic Neuropathy (Blindness)
- Peripheral Neuropathy (Loss of Sensation on Peripheries of Body)
- Peripheral Gangrene
- Ultimately, DEATH
We know this sounds terrible but there is always light at the end of a tunnel. We’re here to tell you that it’s not too late! Although there are very low chances of reversing these lifelong diseases, well it’s possible to prevent them from happening in the first place. We have prepared a few points that everyone should remember.
(1) Your Mindset

Well for starters, the biggest and single most important thing that you need is to CHANGE YOUR MINDSET. Without the proper mindset, you will never get anything done. We have to look at this in the long run as you have to change your lifestyle to a better and healthier kind.
(2) Healthy Eating Habit

Notice something odd about this header? We used the word Eating Habit instead of the word ‘Diet’. What difference does it make? Well to us, diet is a short term meal plan that is designed to make you either drop your weight or gain it (depending on what is your fitness goal). Eating Habit is something that involves a much longer period of time. Just because you’ve reached your target weight does not mean that you can start slacking off. We need this to be a regular daily thing in order to combat these lifestyle illnesses.
(3) Quit Unhealthy Habits

What unhealthy habits are we talking about? Well alcohol, smoking and unhealthy snacking primarily. These 3 habits are among the top tier reasons as to why people tend to be having Metabolic Syndrome or Lifestyle Related Illnesses. Snacking and alcohol tend to have a lot of empty calories (calories with no nutritional value) which will lead to fat build up and deposited to different parts of the body.
(4) Daily Exercise and Caloric Expenditure
In our previous articles, we at Fitnacle always emphasize on Caloric Expenditure when it comes to weight loss. In case you haven’t read the previous articles, then you should know that daily exercise (strength & cardiovascular) increases our metabolism and therefore, increases our caloric expenditure. With this comes weight loss and a decrease in susceptibility to Lifestyle Related Illnesses.
With all these mentioned above, don’t start when it’s too late. Better be safe, fit and healthy than to be miserably sorry for the rest of your life.
